Solar system

It is a system which consists of Sun holding 99.8% of the total systems mass and its planetary system along with belts of asteroids, lots of dust, comets and most importantly us, the human beings.

It's planetary system consists of eight planets and their moons and other non stellar objects. It formed 4.6 billion years ago from the gravitational collapse of a giant molecular cloud.

The image on left shows only the solar system planetary system consisting of eight planets (scaled to relative sizes)

The four inner planets are called terrestrial planets which are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars. These planets are smaller and denser and are mainly composed of rock. The outer four planets are called gas giants or Jovian planets which are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and these planets as the name says are gaseous in nature(doesn't have a solid surface).

The Solar System also contains a number of regions populated by smaller objects. The asteroid belt, which lies between Mars and Jupiter, is similar to the terrestrial planets as it mostly contains objects composed of rock and metal
. The Terrestrial planets are separated from Jovian planets by this asteroid belt. Beyond Neptune's orbit lie the Kuiper belt and scattered disc, linked populations of trans-Neptunian objects composed mostly of ices. Within these populations are several dozen to more than ten thousand objects that may be large enough to have been rounded by their own gravity. Such objects are referred to as dwarf planets. Beyond all these also there exists the highly hypothesized Oort cloud.
